Andrea Collesano was born in Pontedera in November 1980. He obtained the artistic diploma in 2004 and graduated in painting at the Academy of Fine Arts of Florence, with a thesis analyzing the metamorphic and mythological figures in Bocklin painting. Focusing in particular, on the zoomorphic part. He has lived and worked for several years in Forte dei Marmi.

The sea element, the nature and animals are Andrea’s main source of inspiration, showing particular attention to the animal kingdom.

His subjects range from miniatures representing small insects to large works where the main characters are whales and other mysterious creatures of the abyss.

He passionately draws with black ink on paper he prepares himself, giving the material a taste of ancient times and a feeling of melancholic serenity.

Stains and effects obtained by the aging process often become the starting point of the creation of his creatures.

Inspired by the ancient, the lost and by old symbolic and naturalistic engravings, he tries to recreate the world that dwells within his mind. In 2011, he tries his hand in sculpture in bronze, transforming his animals into tridimensional figures.

The dreamlike element that is present in his works mixes accuracy with almost scientific and obsessive attention to detail.

The symbols are repeated: keys, bicolour chess, undefined horizons and patches of architectural elements in the way of an abandoned lighthouse.
